Johnny--I think you're right. Of course, *I* have an agenda, as well, and I see these incidents through the filter of that agenda...

Spacemom--That's exactly it; maybe, after a hundred years, people will be so used to online communication that the subtleties will be conveyed as well. Dunno, though!

Julie P.--Um. Well. It *was* apropos of boards, but not of blogs! I, too, have caught myself just not saying anything a lot of times; sort of an extension of "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything". Which is a form of self-censorship. Hm. Actually, I try to couch any objectiosn I have to something in a "reasoned" manner, so that the heat of the moment doesn't obscure what I'm trying to say. Goodness knows if it works, though.

(just not quite buying 100% totally that this is apropos of nothing... ;) ) (is one emoticon just enough?)

Yes we hear through our own filters, whether it is reading or hearing.

I try to communicate carefully, deliberately.

There are times I miss, either saying or hearing, either way.

In general, I've begun stopping myself more and more recently unless I have something constructive to add.

The written word loses the tone and voice that we often have in everyday conversation. I wish there was a better way to convey what I mean instead of what I write sometimes.

I find that people leave comments in a manner that suggest they have a certain agenda and one teeny-tiny phrase in a posting I have is absolutely FOR or absolutely AGAINST(!!!!) that hidden agenda.

Sometimes, it is.....just words.
